Flipping a Flop

Once described as an “eyesore” of the neighborhood, this newly flipped Walker’s Point home is now anything but unsightly. Making Their Mark

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in Bay View, Milwaukee Makerspace provides collaborative workshop space for its community of builders, inventors, thinkers and tinkers. The organization’s nearly 300 members dabble in electronics, woodworking, metalworking, video, sewing, printing and much more.

Ticket to Paradise

One of the few remaining movie palaces in Milwaukee, the Oriental Theatre will turn 90 on July 2. Although John and Thomas Saxe operated the East Side gem when it opened, its history is a bit complicated, says manager Eric Alan Levin.

Central Standard Craft Distillery

An idea scribbled on the back of a bar napkin led friends Evan Hughes, publisher of Draft Magazine, and Pat McQuillan, a former banker, to found Milwaukee’s second craft distillery. The idea came in 2012, the distillery opened its doors in 2014, and now, just three years later, the partners are moving production from Walker’s Point to 2330 W. Clybourn St., but they’re keeping the original distillery open for tastings and test batches. The two sat down with M Magazine to talk about being entrepreneurs, giving back to the community, and, of course, spirits and cocktails.
